"The Christos and The Cardinal Conception"
One of the most significant astrological configurations of modern times, indeed of the past two thousand years, is lining up to occur as an exact aspect in July/August of 2010. The quadrature alignment (square and opposition) of the moon and five planets, with other significant factors in hard aspect, indicate a transformational crisis of the collective consciousness playing out dramatically on a global scale. This alignment is especially significant in that the aspects are formed exactly on the Cardinal Axis (hence the name “Cardinal Conception”) insuring that the energies involved are given outward expression in the mundane affairs of the world.
Similar alignments have occurred at many historical junctures, such as the beginning of the American Revolution, The French Revolution, WWI, The Great Depression, and WWII. Richard Tarnas' highly acclaimed “Cosmos and Psyche” presents exhaustive evidence of corresponding cultural and political phenomenon associated with hard aspects of the outer planets in a close orb.
Yet perhaps the most remarkable quality of this alignment is it's similarity to the configuration of planets at the time historically ascribed to the birth of Christ. It is possible that these patterns describe humanity to be at a turning point in the evolution of consciousness. Interpreting the alignments of the Jesus chart provides valuable insights into the upcoming alignment, suggesting that the next phase of human evolution is nothing less than the healing of the emotional body, the full manifestation of unconditional love and universal brotherhood achieved through unconditional self acceptance.
I have chosen to examine a moment of maximum intensity for the rather slow forming T square of Pluto to the opposition of Saturn and Uranus, which includes the Moon, Mars, Jupiter and Neptune, all in hard aspect to the cardinal points. Although our emphasis is on the outer planets, due consideration will be given to the entire planetary configuration, treating it as an event chart.
The other chart we'll investigate is December 25, 0001, at Bethlehem, Israel. This date has often been contested as the real birth of Christ for various reasons with many alternative dates suggested by various researchers. Having examined the charts of numerous alternative dates, I find that the chart of the traditional date resonates dramatically with the qualities of the man, Jesus, as we know him through the New Testament, and with the qualities associated with the Christ.
I prefer to use the term “Christos” which is not constrained by the dogma of any particular sect or denomination, but is considered as a universal phenomenon, appearing with similar attributes throughout many spiritual and metaphysical traditions. I hope this helps to avoid any evangelical implications as we examine the role of the Christos in the present day evolutionary arc of human consciousness, and how we can gain valuable insights from interpreting the coming “Cardinal Conception” from this perspective.
The Evolution of Consciousness
The prevailing Western world view is that consciousness primarily refers to intellect, or the activity of left brain, rational, linear, mathematical, empirically based modes of awareness. Western education focuses on this mode of consciousness almost exclusively. In this regard, we have become a race of super heroes who are able to separate sub-atomic particles, manipulate genetic codes, and send vehicles beyond the borders of our solar system.
But our consciousness includes attitudes, opinions, feelings and sensitivities. These are emotional and intuitive modes of awareness. Emotional intellect is a relatively new idiom gaining popularity both in early childhood development, and in the business world parlance of peak performance criteria. Although humanity has made unimaginable progress intellectually, emotionally we are little more advanced than our Neanderthal ancestors who first stood erect and began to use tools and weapons.
Collectively our challenges are not intellectual. Rather, as a race we are suffering from our emotional retardation. One glance through a newspaper is enough to remind us how primitively brutal, corrupt, fearful and selfish is the general condition of humanity. It is plainly evident that only the healing of the emotional aspects of consciousness can keep us from sliding over the brink of mass destruction. The eons-long process of “survival of the fittest” and “natural selection” has led us, finally, to our emotional body, to the door of the human heart. In recent years, the meditation movement has begun to focus on emotional processing, on awakening the ability to embrace and integrate our darker emotions and traumatic memories, which when disowned and projected outwardly perpetuate all manner of suffering. I'll elaborate more fully on this theme as we examine our two charts and see how they may inform us in regard to the evolution of consciousness.
The Importance of the Cardinal Axis
Astronomically the cardinal points are the spring and fall equinoxes and the summer and winter solstices. They are peak points of change in the annual solar cycle. They are points of initiating a new phase in the seasonal cycles.
Astrologically the cardinal points are the mainframe of the horoscope on which all the other elements are placed. As such, these points are the same in everyone's chart, thereby providing a commonality, a universal link to the collective. Personal planets connected to the cardinal axis are directly connected to the collective consciousness. Therefore, the cardinal points act as a portal both from the individual to the world and from the world to the individual.
